To assist my wife in her genealogy research, can anyone tell me what a GB or GP rating would be in the RN circa 1911. Possibly Gunnery ???

Any help much appreciated, get in the good books, if you know what I mean, nudge, nudge, wink, wink !!

Kevin Patrick (Tommy) Steele R I P

Thanks for informing us all of Tommy's sad and early demise Tom.  May He Rest in Peace.  I will remember him particularly from the Eagle, 63-66, where we trailed each other doing the A W K Course and then studying for the Killicks Fleetboard before picking up our Hook. We did the M T C together in Sultan where Tommy got Mechs marks and went on to complete the two year course.  Yourself, Tom and Tommy then joined the ALBION as Baby Mechanicians,  where I had meanwhile been rated POME and was down below in B Boiler Room.  Happpy Days.  Tommy left us well before his time.  Keep in touch Tom and I shall see you in Penarth on 19 May.

It would be good to see Standards, please Lads.

lincoln memories

Dusty, Go ahead and speak on e-mail.  should be quite interesting to reminise of old times in Lincoln, as you said your latest you have brother in Cherry Willingham--my closet mate lived there but has now moved to Bury-St Edmunds suffolk. He is aged about 85, so who knows they could have known each other.  All the best Eric.

Lincoln

Hi Dusty, although I don't live in Lincoln as such but 30 miles down the road in Cleethorpes about a 50 min. run on these country roads,  I do visit Lincoln quite often to attend S/m Assoc. meetings and like yourself have a love affair with the city and the cathederal, let me have your address and I will forward some photos or postcards on to you.  I may push the boat out and send you a local paper.  Best wishes from the Fens.  Bob

Anyone from Lincoln

I have never seen anything from anyone in Lincoln, which was my hometown. I wonder if there are any members from there. Although I have been in NZ for just over 50 years now  it would be nice to hook up with someone from there.

Cheers

Dusty

bugle band

I was a silver bugler in 1970/1971, which came with a blue card!!!, but I do remember getting 7 days No 9's for daring to jazz up reveille. I also played at the Royal Tournement 1971 & Clackton Carneval, meeting Pans People. Great days and very fond memories. Anyone remember these?

Just in case it may have slipped some minds, next year is the 50th year of celebrating (?) our entry into the RN at Ganges. 12.9.1961, is it REALLY 50 years. Anyhow, are there enough out there to try and organise something?. Still looking for Duncan 13 members, especially David Winch.

Cheerrs for your reply Stoney.

I'm not sure if this is the same Derek Day.

When I left the RN in 1983 and moved back to Folkestone I made contact with his father who was very ill with dementia, but his career informed me that Derek only completed 9 years in the RN then moved to America. She tried to find Dereks American address but failed to do so and Dereks father died shortly after. Dereks brother died not long after completing his 22 in1981.
