Reunion Accommodation

I last attended the 2001 HMS Ganges Association reunion on the anniversary of my 50 years since joining in 1951. On that occasion I was fortunate to be accompanied by my wife. However I feel I am being penalised for being a widower and not being able to have single accommodation. I do not believe that in this day and age that the organisers/Pontins are not able to offer single cabins even though they may be at a premium. Since I left Her Majesty's Royal Navy the only person I have ever shared a bunk with was my wife. The statement on the booking form is that single cabins are not available "refusals cause embarrassments". I am extremely embarrassed at sharing a cabin with some person that I do not know or would like to know. May I through this channel ask that the committee reconsider the subject of single accommodation. I do not accept that there is no alternative.

Crossed The Bar

Michael John Jeffrey D.O.B. 17/11/25. He lived in Luton and he died on the 12th July 2005. He worked for our Company as a driver for many years and was a fine gentleman. His funeral was lead by an ex Naval Chaplin and he repeatably mentioned Ganges and the way it had influenced Michael's life. Unfortunately, Michael had cancer and this is what brought his life to an end. I know his family quite well and said I would get his death announced on the Ganges website.

HMS Ganges USA Reunion 2006

At the request of several of those present at the 2004 reunion, sites in the USA have been looked at for a 2006 reunion. So far the most attractive deal on offer seems to be New Orleans, onboard a Mississippi stern paddle wheel steamer, the Delta Queen, from 9th to 16th December. These dates attract a near 50% discount on the prices to be announced in the soon to be issued 2006 brochure. Outside cabin with two full fare paying occupants US$1380 each; inside US$1202 (GBP 755 - 657); Children under 18 sharing free; additional adult in cabin (only some have three beds) US$100 per night. Prices include accommodation, food & soft drinks; alcohol and gambling extra, as are runs ashore unless you can wangle 'grippos'! Join boat in New Orlean to sail on 9th. Leave boat in Memphis on 16th. When known, full program to those showing an interest. US$300 refundable deposit per person needed with reservation. Remainder to be paid in full 90 days before sailing. Penalties for cancellation after full payment or within 90 days of sailing. Early indication of interest requested.

Mr Muggeridge at Hignam Court 1940/42

A lady living near Gloucester remembers (from the age of 8 years) a sailor who was stationed at Hignam Court 1940/42. She knew him as Mr Muggeridge. Does anyone remember anything about him?

Peter Smith

I would like to let everyone who sponsored me, from the HMS Ganges Association know that I finished the 8 mile walk around "Carsington Water" in aid of MNDA, on 19 June 2005, Fathers day (the hottest day of the year I think). I raised £310 and thank you all very much, I really do appreciate the sponsorship, I did the walk in memory of my husband Peter Smith (Beeston Ganges Standard Bearer) who died of this terrible disease, just two days before the 2003 reunion.
I thank you all again.

The Tug Wilson Appeal

As of today 1/7/05, the Tug Wilson Appeal stands at a total of £750 after just 4 weeks. Most of the donations Have come from Ganges Boys and Divisions.
Yesterday I received a cheque from the Solent Division for £100 and a few weeks ago Mid Herts. Division raised £80, The West London Division have so far raised about £270, I have received many personal donations from Ganges Boys and Girls and also from the HMS Tiger Association, one of Tugs old ship's, I have also had a promise of £50 from Robbie Robson now secretary of the NFA, A big Thank You to Everyone.
I have been in touch with Shep Woolley and he is now onboard and is hoping to do a Gig down at Uxbridge towards the end of the year to raise more funds.
Out target is still unknown at this time as we have several companies visiting Tug to measure the old Basket up as he needs to lose a little weight, correction he needs to lose a lot of weight!!!!!! so if you see him around Don't Feed him and No Wets what so ever!!!!!!!!!
We expect our target to be around about £3000 so we still need your help, if you belong to a Ganges Division then please consider sending a donation.
Donations can be sent to:
