Regret to inform you of the passing and the funeral today of ex-Ganges boy George Albert Luck DSM (18.05.22 - 26.05.07).
I assume you will find him somewhere in the years 1935-38 at HMS Ganges.
George was a staunch member of the Merseyside Submarine Association and also the Birkenhead RNA.
Standards of both branches and that of the British Legion were paraded at the funeral this morning and was well attended by old comrades, family and friends. The service was conducted by the Chaplain of HMS Eaglet, Father John Williams MBE.
During his 18 years service in the RN George initially served on HMS Renown and HMS Resolution and later volunteered for the Submarine Service and enjoyed early and rapid promotion to CPO during the war years and became the youngest ever Coxswain in the Submarine Service at age 21 years, a record yet to be surpassed. His older brother L/S Walter Luck was lost in HM/S Thetis in the submarine disaster of 1939. George served on HM/S Taurus both in the Med and the Far East and was awarded the DSM for gallantry. Post war he served in HM/S Affray and numerous other boats. At his request, George's ashes are to be cast upon the sea at Moelfre, Angelsey, where his brother Walter was lost all those years ago. Donations were made by the branch and mourners to the RNLI station at Moelfre in memory of George.
Just thought you would like to know about yet another old Ganges boy who made something of himself and his long eventful life.Resurgam - They shall rise again.
Yours Aye
