A couple of queries from Down Under
Can anyone enlighten me on a couple of points. Firstly, which King was it who bumped his head and bestowed upon the Navy the privilege of remaining seated during the Loyal Toast?
Secondly, does any ex-Pompey rating remember having one shilling docked from their pay around 1958 to pay for the completion of the Royal Sailors Home Club.

James William Crunkhurn
Hello, my name is Gail Mumby and I am trying to find out a bit about my dad and his naval days.
I have just been looking at the photos on the computer and have been trying to recognise any of them to be my father.
I have a few pictures of him in his uniform and he has HMS GANGES on his cap, so just wondered if anyone knew him or remembers him,
name being James William Crunkhurn, or Bill as he was fondly known. He was born in 1934 and I think he joined about age 15 which would be about 1949.
Thank you, kind regards.

Medal Conundrum
Can anyone clear up a question over the issue of medals.
In the museum we have been re-displaying our medal collection and I understood that the Korean medal issued to me in 1953 especially in time for the coronation. (I lined the street in Northumberland Avenue) was I thought, the first medal with the Queen's head on it.
My Naval General Service medal was the last one with King George VI on it as we qualified for this in Malaya in 1949 (HMS Mounts Bay for both) Can anyone confirm or disprove this please?
Someone gave me the medal web site to check on the first medal with the Queens head on it and britians-small wars.com/Medals/index seems to confirm my thought that the British Korean medal was the first with the Queens Head on it.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Lift to Reunion 2006
Are you from the Doncaster area or passing through Doncaster on your way to Reunion? If so have you got two spare seats in your transport?
Lou Carter and his wife have only missed 1 Reunion in the last 20 years and unfortunately Lou's mate who normally gives them a lift has just had to drop out, leaving them with a probable train journey involving 3 changes and approx £150.
Lou is booked in from the Friday until the Monday but is prepared to travel back on the Sunday. If you can help Lou and his good lady out with a lift please contact him on 01302-817534. Thank you.

200th Year Anniversary
of Mylor Dockyard |
 |
Following received from:
Tony Thipthorpe <thipthorpe@btconnect.com>
Chairman
HMS Ganges Association
Begins
This year sees the 200th anniversary of Mylor Dockyard, which was the smallest Royal Navy dockyard and, as you will be aware, the home to HMS Ganges Boys Training Ship for many years and currently the Ganges Memorial.
The anniversary celebrations on 1st July next, are being jointly hosted by Mylor Yacht Harbour Ltd and Mylor Yacht Club, of which I am a Committee Member as well as co-ordinating the arrangements for the celebration.
It seemed to me that, in view of the important role played by HMS Ganges in the history of the dockyard that we should extend an invitation to participate to your Association, should you wish to do so and to this end I wonder whether you would be kind enough to advise me who is the local representative so that I might contact him or her and extend such an invitation.
