FORGET WHAT THEY TOLD YOU AT GANGES
VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED!!!!
CENOTAPH PARADE SUNDAY 12th NOVEMBER 2006
I have still got 25 tickets from our allocation of 50 remaining. Do you live within easy reach of London? Would you like to attend the Parade. Have you got any Ganges 'oppos' who live in the London area and you think would like to participate. (They don't have to be members of the Association but they most probably would be after the Parade!!!!).
If we can't fill our ticket quota it will not be right next year asking for the same amount of tickets and denying somebody else from going. So please have a think of who you know who lives near to the 'Big Smoke' who might like a ticket.
If you or an 'oppo' would like to go, contact me at, 8 Bishops Croft, Beverley, East Yorkshire HU17 8JY or ring me on 01482-866855. I can bring the tickets with me even if you leave it to the last minute to apply. (Friday 10th November)
Thank you in anticipation.

Crossed The Bar
It is with regret that I inform the Membership that Russell (Jock) Stuart P/J952489A HMS Ganges 06/09/1955 Collingwood 32 mess crossed the bar Wednesday 18th October. Many members will have known Jock as he never missed a reunion and served a very long time in the mob. He often dropped in at Uxbridge, home of the West London Boys and always travelled to Reunion with us.
May you find a safe anchorage Jock

Dear Friends & Members,
I now have all the details for the Memorial Service & Funeral for our dear departed salt of the earth and true friend Jock Stuart.
The service will take place in the "Church of St Barbara" at HMS EXCELLENT on Thursday 2nd November at 1000.
The church will be able to seat approximately 200 persons at a squeeze although there will be a certain amount of standing room.
The service will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Brotherton.
After this service a further committal service will be held at Portchester crematorium at 1130.
This will be a very quick committal lasting only a few minutes.
This will be mainly for family but any close friends may attend should they wish.
Members & friends from his other associations attending the Memorial service are asked to gather at the GI's Association at approximately 0930.
After the service a wake will be held in the Association, where Jock had stated there are to be free drinks for those attending.
Small eats will also be provided.
On Friday 3rd November, between 1200 & 1400 the ashes of our dear departed Jock will be scattered in the Rose Garden, close to his friend, Alan (Chippy) Carpenter. All those wishing to attend will be welcome. The Association will be open for all those attending.
The family have requested that there should be only family flowers but have requested that any donations should be made to TS GANGES. Jock, himself, was a Ganges boy and would have appreciated that future generations of young sailors would be helped in this way.

Once again the Association has applied for 50 tickets for the above event to enable our members to participate. To date the uptake for the tickets has been slower than last year. All those who participated last year, commented on what a wonderful experience it was and they were so glad that they had had the chance to do it.
Anyone requiring a ticket please apply to Dave Tait, 8 Bishops Croft, Beverley, East Yorkshire HU17 8JY. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope. Please send an envelope big enough to take a piece of A4 size paper.
Before applying can I please remind you of the physical demands of standing in Whitehall for at least 1 hour and then marching for a distance of at least one and a half miles, possibly in inclement weather.
Thank you

40-YEAR CERTIFICATES
The main committee has tasked me to look into the feasibility of creating and issuing 40-year certificates. Last year, one member took on the role of producing and issuing these. However, for whatever reason, at the 2006 AGM the committee moved all decisions to the 2007 AGM.
I would therefore appreciate your constructive comments and ideas regarding this and I shall report to the main committee in January with my findings on this matter. On another note, if this idea is passed at the AGM we will be looking for a volunteer to role this project out.
Please forward all correspondence to the attention of:

Australian Supply & Secretarial Officer
I have received a couple of queries over the last two days asking if I am still collecting the Ganges Association Fees in Australia. I presume this is because my name has disappeared from the Ganges Gazette from the representatives section. This I suspect was due to the fact that in SA the President has taken over both roles as Secretary and President, simply that I live too far away from Adelaide to be in touch with or to attend all 'local' events.
Can you place on the web site that I am still collecting fees for current members in Oz and those here wishing to join our merry band. I will be hoping to contact members early in the New Year. I will also collect money for Slops and pass on to Dickie Doyle as usual. In fact I will receive fees all year round for those who miss the boat.
I collect all monies in Australian dollars, the conversion into sterling is done at my end.
Any queries please contact me Ted Lavender <tedlav2@internode.on.net> 47 Eyre Avenue, Whyalla. South Australia. 5608, Phone (08) 8644 1281.
